„Izabela, get into your seat,” the teacher yelled.
„OK” I responded, stomping to my seat and glaring at the floor.
People would find the most surprising thing about me was that I never used to pay attention. I
used to misbehave and talk during class. I never thought that listening would be as important as
it is now. Now I understand why I needed to listen.
When I was younger, I didn’t understand the importance of listening, but after not being able
to complete my homework because my mom didnt understand, I understood.
„When I was little, I didn’t get an option to learn english, and now I wish I did. When I was a kid,
I never thought of growing up and moving to America, so I never learned english. After moving
to America I can see why I should’ve learned,” my mother said with a sigh.
After hearing what my mom had to say, I decided to be more careful and listen. I never
noticed how lucky I was before. I always thought of school to be just a thing you go to. When
my mother told me about her childhood, I learned to discipline myself. Whenever I was in class,
I behaved and listened. I learned that since I could discipline myself, I could listen and be a
better person.
Now I can understand why I had to behave and discipline myself. I can use discipline in the
future to help me get into a good high school or learn more to get to college. I can understand
how my mom wants me to learn and have a better life than she had. Maybe before, I didn’t
understand the importance but now I do.

here is part of my book review so far. what do you think? any suggestions to make it better?
Mary Lou is 13 yrs old. She writes a lot in her journal- she’s filled up six little notebooks! She lives with her mother, father, sister Maggie, brothers Dennis, Doug and Tommy. Maggie is the oldest of the 5 siblings at the age of 17. Dennis is a troublemaker, throwing eggs and apples at houses, like their neighbor, Mrs.Furtz. Doug, a.k.a. Dougie, is a quiet little 8 yr old who calls himself “the poor little slob”. Tommy, a 4 yr old baby, according to Mary Lou, “We (the family) think he’s cute as anything, so he gets away with murder. He’s the messiest eater you’ve ever seen.” It can put the image of a little innocent baby with spaghetti strewn over his head and milk dribbling down his chin while an abundance of food is on the plate, table, floor and the baby himself. The book is about how Carl Ray, one of Mary Lou’s many cousins, comes to Easton and gives Mary Lou’s summer vacation a twist she won’t ever forget. Carl Ray is a quiet fellow who sneaks up for you, and never cleans up anything-his bed, his room, nothing! In addition, he has a humongous appetite! One interesting parting this book was when Carl Ray spills his whole story. It took him a long time to say it, and it kept me in suspense. Mary Lou was growing impatient, “’I DO! I DO! I DO!’ I stopped. I counted to twenty. I breathed deeply.” And also, “’Very good. Very good indeed, Carl Ray. Thank you for telling me all this.’ Sometimes, when you talk with Carl Ray for a while, you begin to lose your marbles and talk like an idiot.”
